Perks

Working with Camp Denali gets you so much more than a paycheck...

In Camp Denali's earliest days, staff was composed of hikers who happened by and enjoyed themselves so much they stayed. Ginny and Celia (the original owners of the lodge) would split the meager profits at the end of the season, in thanks. The lodges have come a long way since those days.

Staff are provided an hourly wage and receive overtime compensation for hours worked beyond eight/day or forty/week. To learn more about the paycheck, visit the "Jobs" page here.

In addition to standard pay, our staff receive a share of pooled tips, divided equally by hours worked each month; these tips typically average at least $500/month/person.

Transportation to Alaska is the responsibility of employees, but those who complete their full contracted season of employment with us will receive a travel stipend to help defray the cost. In 2020, we anticipate that amount to be $500/person.

Uniforms are required for all positions, and a uniform stipend is provided each year ($150 for new staff, $125 for returning staff) to get you outfitted for the summer season.

These other benefits are icing on the cake:

  • Up to six free bus passes/staff member each season
  • Free housing for one night at Parkside Guest House in Anchorage, both on your way to and from work with us
  • Discounted flightseeing and activities in the Denali area
  • Access to discounts with outfitting companies
  • Opportunities for personal visitors to stay on our properties
  • Offseason professional development support to build skills related to your position with us
  • Access to and use of a picturesque mountaintop cabin with a view of Wonder Lake and the Alaska Range
  • Free access to viewing our Special Emphasis Series evening programs
  • Participation in our Naturalist Guided Hikes, as space allows
  • Use of bikes, canoes, and fishing equipment, when not in use by our guests
  • And don't forget that pretty spectacular view...
